The Belles of the Ball

Now, I don't know anything about orchids, but when I was at the Muttart Conservatory with my Dad a couple of weeks ago I spied these beauties shimmering in a little nook.

These exotic blooms are surely princesses visiting from a faraway land

Here for a mysterious floral ball

Where they will dance with a swish of silk to the rise of cellos

and dazzle their suitors

before slipping away at midnight

with a slight curtsy and a blush.

Hope you are having a great weekend!

What sumptuous photographs - this is where I believe hort couture is presented at its very best..... that last photo especially. A wonderful weekend back to you!

Those orchids are so beautiful they almost look other-wordly.

Hi Everybody, Aren't those orchids exquisite? It was quite a thrill to see them all together. This is one of those times where I wish I was much more experienced with my camera, as it was hard to do them justice.

Glad you enjoyed these little beauties!

Beautiful pictures!! I've always found orchids to be a little odd & intimidating, but I can see why those who love them become obsessed with them. Must be a great place to visit this time of year. :)

Such eye candy! Orchids are my favorite flowers.

Rebecca, I too am totally intimidated by orchids - but they do dazzle!

Ellie Mae's Cottage: I can see how you would fall in love with these. If I ever had success growing one I wouldn't be able to stop until I grew another. So far, though, I haven't been very lucky :)

Ms. S ! ... These are such beauties .. I have terrible guilt pangs about the two orchids I brought home one year and managed to kill them both .. something about indoor plants and I don't mix properly ? Those were wonderful pictures of stunning flowers : )

Ms. S, you did a great job with the photographs -- no need to be intimidated at all -- and an equally lovely job with the charming narrative. I'll have to check out your Muttart link.

These are so beautiful, but probably very difficult to grow. I always suggest starting with a phalonopsis orchid first, it is dead easy.

What lovely bits of whimsy! I've never seen anything like the second to last orchid. It's positively alien looking...in a very good way! Thank you for introducing me to the Moonlight and Hares blog - my, what a treasure.

orchids are one of my favourite indoor plants but I can't grow them. I can grow anything outside even in my zone 1-2 garden but indoors I'm impossible. I've bought about a half dozen orchids now and each one dies so I've given up on them -- they are far too expensive to keep them only to have them die. I was at Muttart about a month and a half ago -- what a treat that was. It's been so many years since I've been there.
