when you sing in your whisky voice

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's getting kinda slushy around these parts. When I'm wandering the trails I try to stay on the trodden path because the snow there is packed down and there is less possibility I will sink through to my knees. I can see the deer tracks really well in this damp snow and I know I am not that far behind them.

[These narcissus taken May 2010 in neighbour's front garden. Aren't they the cutest!]

The days lately have been brilliant sunshine and one section of my trail is closed off due to flooding. Greenish yellow water followed me down another trail today in gushes staining the snow in front of it. I bet that section of trail will be closed off by tomorrow. Crows are wheeling through the neighbourhood and the magpies are affronted.

Given all this extravagance of wakening earth after a hard, snowpacked winter, I can only think of one poem that really captures it. Here is my old university sweetheart...

...when you sing in your whisky voice
the grass rises on the head of the earth
and all the trees are put on edge...

Welcome back, Miss Spring. Like a gin-soaked favourite auntie with the best stories, hugging us all and smearing lipstick on the kids, you are bit late for the party, but we are still tickled pink that you are here.

Oh my, this puts a whole new earthy sexy spin on spring. Our springtime here has been so timid and reticent and slow and kind of pristine .... until I listened to this!

I ditto Laurrie's comments. A reticent spring in these parts. Or maybe she's just indecisive. Can't decide if she really wants to join the party or not. Great post!

Hello there Ms S : ) How are you !
I also had a flash of thinking those daffs looked like anemone ! Now how strange is that ?
I could see that water slushing back where you were walking .. memories as a kid with soaked pathways in the woods ..ah .. yes .. Spring has dallied with us enough .. it is time for her to get serious ! LOL
Joy : )

LOL. A gin soaked auntie! You certainly have a way with words. I too am thrilled to see spring back, it couldn't come soon enough.

Laurrie: Spring IS sexy when she's at full force! We have waited sooo long here that I think we are all a little "spring drunk" right now with sunshine and warming breezes.

Casa: You are so sweet! Those daffs are on a neighbours front lawn. I took the pic last May. I may get brave enough to ask what they are this year as I adore them.

Grace: Sometimes spring arrives so quietly we don't notice her but some years, like this one, she plunks her carpetbag down and settles in for a party. I am so glad to see her!

Joy: Aren't they the sweetest daffs? If I find out what they are I will post it. There is nothing like mucking about with your boots on this time of year - it does remind me of childhood! :)

Sweetbay: Never has a such a volatile guest been so eagerly awaited by so many. Yay spring!

Marguerite: It seems only weeks ago I was looking at pics of your mailbox. lol Glad spring found you!

Rilla: Oh, me too. :)

Slush sounds promising :) I do hope that your spring lingers at a gentle pace so that you can treasure it. Ours almost lurched into the middle of summer last weekend and everything is ahead of itself. Love the poem!

Okay, this is not fair...even YOU are ahead of me with spring! But seriously, it's lovely to see your blooms and I hope the flooding has receded. Reading about a lot of flooding out west, which worries me. Here, we have just cold weather and some bombastic tides happening.

Anna: Spring sashayed in then abruptly left. But now she is back and I know this time it's 'for real' because the robins came with her. Yay!

Jodi: I added a caption under the photos to make it clear the photos are not from this year - still too much snow here. But spring has finally arrived! Hope she has found her way east at long last as well. :)
